Greetings from James S. Gordon, MD, Founder & Director
This June, the Center is assembling the most remarkable group of faculty we know to offer you a choice of two outstanding programs: CancerGuides® II, an in-depth course on cutting-edge integrative oncology care, and our very popular Food As Medicine nutrition training. The need for both courses is great. Newly diagnosed cancer patients are asking, What can I do? And all of us are asking, What should I eat? The potential for the right therapies and nutritional approaches to be powerful allies in a healing plan is tremendous, and these courses each equip health professionals with the science and clinical approaches necessary to confidently advise their patients and clients. CancerGuides® II is also a wonderful course for both patient advocates and cancer survivors, and there is no requirement to take CancerGuides® I before this course. Click on the program names to read about each in detail, and read below to see some results of past trainings for our graduates and their communities. Enjoy a vacation in the Nation's Capitol and enhance your practice. We hope to see you in June!! |

Cancer Care in Cebu City: Bill Ramos
During a recent Center staff meeting, Jim Gordon said, “It's rare when competence goes together with kindness.” We think that's the appeal of our model, and we note these qualities among many of our graduates doing outstanding work around the world. May we introduce you to Dr. Bill Ramos, medical oncologist, teacher, and creative artist who is spreading the healing tools of self-awareness in the Philippines. Click here to read about his experiences at our trainings and his remarkable work.

CMBM Trainings as Transformation: Rosenny Fenton
Our colleague Rosenny Fenton, MSW, Development & Grants Manager at the Center, had a long-awaited sojourn in Southeast Asia after attending Food As Medicine last June. Upon her return, she surprised us all by saying that attending Food As Medicine had been more life-transforming than her travels. We thought you might enjoy her inspiring story of why. We’re Proud to Announce: The SuperFood Drive Campaign
Ruthi Solari attended Food As Medicine in January 2009. A couple months later, she wrote us and said, I was so inspired I created a national SuperFood Drive Campaign I’m about to launch. Her idea is to get nutrient-dense, whole foods into food banks across the nation. How awesome is that? Click here to read about Ruthi, and how you can get involved in this simple, powerful campaign. |

What’s a Cancer Guide?
A Portrait of Center Faculty Member Debra Kaplan
Any list of Truly Wise Women would have to include psychotherapist Debra Kaplan, LCSW, LMFT. At least, any list of ours. Debbie is a senior Center faculty member for both our Mind-Body Medicine and CancerGuides® programs. Click here to read our interview with Debbie about how she works to guide newly diagnosed cancer patients in making decisions and getting the support they need. |

Advances in Cancer Care You Can Count On: Jim Gordon’s Commentary
The New York Times published a front page story by Gina Kolata on April 24 entitled “Advances Elusive in the Drive to Cure Cancer” on the significant failure of our near-forty-year “war on cancer”. Click here to read Jim Gordon's response in the April 30 Huffington Post, appreciating Kolata's critique of where we are with conventional cures, but calling her dismissal of valid complementary therapies “. ill-informed and potentially dangerous.”
