Debu Tripathy, MD

Debu Tripathy, M.D. Debu Tripathy, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Komen/UT Southwestern Breast Cancer Research Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. His past laboratory research has focused on the role of receptor tyrosine kinase oncogene products in human breast cancer, including the use of anti-sense gene technology to interfere with oncogene expression. He has also characterized mechanisms of induction of metastases-related proteins such as urokinase, its receptor and inhibitor in human breast cancer cells.

Dr. Tripathy received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, and completed an internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center. After a clinical fellowship in hematology and oncology, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Cancer Research Institute, University of California at San Francisco. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association of Cancer Research, American Association for the Advancement of Science, is Past President of the American Society of Breast Diseases and President of the Society for Integrative Oncology.

Dr. Tripathy maintains a university-based oncology clinical practice primarily in breast cancer, and he serves as principal investigator on several regional and national clinical trials as well as laboratory-based projects. He is currently interested in conducting clinical research in the field of breast cancer that emphasizes standard as well as innovative approaches derived in the laboratory. Recently, these have included targeted therapy against the HER-2/neu oncogene and other growth factor receptors, new hormonal therapies, as well as preclinical and clinical studies on new agents that target specific biological pathways. He is also conducting correlative studies aimed at defining cancer genetic and protein profiles that correlate with response to conventional and novel therapeutics.
