Healing Trauma in Israel – HistoryIn October of 2002, after the HWW program began in Israel in response to a request for help from a prominent psychologist in Israel, Dr. James Gordon and The Center for Mind-Body Medicine hired their first staff member in Israel, Rhonda Adessky to work as the In–Country Program Coordinator. During the next two years, we selected leaders from a variety of health disciplines and partnered with major medical, academic, and governmental institutions to assist in the development of a comprehensive, effective, and culturally-adaptive training program to implement in Israel Our program was greeted with great enthusiasm from major governmental agencies, such as the Ministry of Education. School psychologists within the Ministry expressed interest in the training because they were looking for more effective ways to help the large number of school-aged children in Israel who are suffering from PTSD. In July 2004, The Center for Mind-Body Medicine was proud to hold its first training program in Israel. The six-days training brought together 65 participants representing the following Israeli government agencies & local non-governmental organizations from all over the country:
As respected leaders of the community, CMBM graduates continue to incorporate their CMBM training in their work with: Israelis displaced from Gaza settlements; IDF soldiers and military police who were involved in the disengagement from the Gaza settlements; victims of terror bombings and their families; educational psychologists within the Israeli Ministry of Education; patients and clients in their clinical practices, and colleagues and employees in their workplaces.
