Healing the Wounds of War: Status

Since its beginning in 1998, the HWW program has trained more than 800 people – from educators to religious and community leaders to health professionals of all types – who are living and working in areas of violent conflict. It has taught them simple techniques to heal their own stress and trauma as it provides the skills necessary for them to heal that of their communities. Our goal is to build capacity within the local psychosocial delivery infrastructures by providing additional tools for these professionals to use as they bring hope and healing to their societies. In Kosovo, our longest running HWW program, this goal has already been realized as the program has been adopted and fully implemented in their national mental healthcare system.

The success of the program is well documented in some of the world's most traumatized locations

  • Israel
  • Gaza
  • Kosovo
  • Macedonia
  • Bosnia

We also brought our healing model to New York City firefighters and their families after the tragedy of 9/11 and in the Gulf Coast after Katrina.
